#11: Transformation Tip: Be Willing to Do Things Differently
Today’s topic is about being willing to do things differently. Being willing to do things differently is a key part of creating change in your life. It may seem simple yet it is transformational to create space and allow yourself to do things differently. This topic of being willing to do things differently is the first in a new series called Transformation Tips. My intention with this episode is to give you a bite sized piece of information related to transformation and change. This is something to support you in changing something in your life based on things that I see coming up with my clients and the work that I'm doing and it starts with doing things differently.
My hope and intention is that this serves as a new piece of information or a reminder that you'll find helpful on your journey. It’s going to be something short and sweet to support you. Of course, if you ever want to dive deeper into anything or if you want to work together in some way, you can reach out. All of my contact information can be found below.
Today's transformation tip is be willing to do things differently. If you're really looking to make lasting change and transformation in your life, this is really a key piece that I see – you have to be willing to do things differently. People are sometimes missing this when they come to me because there can be an expectation that things will go a certain way. Then they question why it isn’t working. In reality, you have to be open to allowing things in a different way, you have to release some of those expectations and really be willing to open up.
A Key Mindset Shift to Do Things Differently
Here's the thing with change and transformation. A lot of people say that they're open and they want to do it, but then as soon as things get hard in some way, they don't want to do it anymore because they don't want to do the hard things. They don't want to take a look at how they are being, how they're reacting to things, how their negative patterns are impacting them or their loved ones, etc. All of that makes a difference. If you really want to have lasting change in your life, you need to be able to look at these things. You need to be willing to experiment and try things in a different way because you won't get different results if you keep thinking of things the same way.
I wanted to highlight this as a transformation tip. And it's a big one because if you decide and when you decide to change your life in some way, whether it's to change careers, start a business, scale your business to a certain amount or make some other kind of move in your life, when you decide that and set that intention, that is a beautiful thing. You will be tested along that journey. Things will get hard, they will feel challenging sometimes.
How do you show up in the times where it feels challenging?
Do you give up and do you stop or do you keep going?
Do you remain open?
Are you willing to try to do things differently?
At the end of the day, if you want a different life in some way, you're not going to get it by doing the same things day in and day out. So, of course, that takes many forms and shapes, whether it's related to the relationships in your life or the type of work you do and where you feel called.
The reminder and the transformation tip is to be aware that you have to be willing to do things differently if you want to have different results in your life. You have to be ready to make changes. You have to be ready to get uncomfortable, maybe scared, and really feel all the feelings to be able to move on to something else. I'm speaking from experience, for myself. I'm speaking from experience working with clients, too. The amazing transformations that I've seen for people have always been when they've stayed open to trying new things and experimenting. It’s ok if you try something and it doesn't work, no problem, but at least you tried it and then you can try something else.
I really believe that we are all unique, so each of our processes is going to look different in some way. What I really want you to do is fill your toolkit with different tools, test them out, try them out, and then see which ones work for you and pull out those tools from the toolkit when you need them. As you are willing to do things differently and explore and see things in a different way, then you will learn new tools. You'll find which ones work for you, and then you can call on those and rely on those more in your process. Then, of course, you're called to change again and expand in some way, and then you need more tools. That's also a whole other conversation. The tip for today is to be willing to do things differently.
Conclusion and Homework Invitation to Do Things Differently
The homework reflection for today is to reflect on where you're doing things differently and where you’re not. Where are you staying a little more fixed and how can you open up to trying something different in that area?
Those are all different pieces that you can reflect on for your own journey.
Where have you been working differently?
Where do you want to start working differently and see where it takes you?
You can do any number of practices to reflect on this. Journaling would be a great one to really be able to see and reflect a little bit more tangibly, but this is an open invitation to reflect in any way that feels good to you. I hope this helps you in some way.
Let me know if you'd like more transformation tips. Again, they're really meant to be short and sweet and to the point. So hopefully you got a takeaway from this and you're going to be looking even at your day a little differently.
