#17: Embracing the Mind Body Soul Connection
For today's episode, we're exploring embracing the mind body soul connection. We'll look at what it means to be aware of the mind body soul connection and how it can support you in your life. I will tell you from my own experience over quite a few years now, strengthening the mind body soul connection is a process and a concept that has completely changed how I live my life. Completely changed it. I've seen it work this way, not only for myself, but for my clients and for loved ones. It's really an amazing process that as you get curious and allow yourself to evolve, can really shift so many things and bring you into so much more alignment within your life. It changes relationships. It changes careers and how you look at work and all of the different aspects of life, parenting as well. I wanted to share this today because exploring the mind body soul connection is a topic that's near and dear to my heart. I have very exciting news around this topic too that I hope to be able to share within the next few weeks. So stay tuned for that.
The mind body soul connection, what does it mean? From my perspective and in my experience, the mind body soul connection is about this process of getting out of your head, getting out of your mind, reconnecting to your body so that you can then discover and become more in alignment with your soul self, with your soul calling, with your highest self, whatever you would like to call it. It's that bigger inner knowing. It's that creative life force energy that runs through you. It is all of those big things that you came here to do before you got conditioned by the world and became an adult and just started with the routines. I'm going to break down each one of these parts of the mind body soul connection because they are all important on their own.
The Mind in the Mind Body Soul Connection
What I see the most with the mind body soul connection is that we are usually operating from the mind. Most of society is operating from the mind. You can probably agree with that because that's how we work. We make all our choices day in, day out. We think about what we're doing. We analyze, and we process from this place.
The mind is a beautiful, beautiful thing. The mind is also a place that can disconnect you from your soul calling. It can disconnect you from being in alignment if you're not aware of how it's working and how it's operating.
To give you a perspective on the mind and how powerful your thoughts are. Humans have anywhere from 50 to 60,000 thoughts per day. It's an average. Of those thoughts, 80% of them are negative. 80% of your thoughts every day are negative. And then 95% of your thoughts are repetitive. So if you're having all these thoughts every day, but 80% of them are negative, and then 95% of them are repetitive, what are you thinking about for most of the day? It's safe to say most of your thoughts every day are negative in some nature. They are not serving your higher purpose. They are not empowering you to shift things in your life and to live from a higher state of being.
That's something that I always love to share with people about the mind because it it'll just give you a glimpse and a sliver of how much we're usually operating on a routine, and how much of that routine is not necessarily supportive to ourselves. When you look at that and you think about how many thoughts you're having, and you think about how many of them are negative, and how many of them repeat, you can start to see probably that it really matters what you tell yourself.
If you continue with thoughts that are negative, you're going to continue repeating those patterns, and it's going to be really hard to break free. I mean, it is. It is challenging to break free. But when you have this awareness, you can start to shift things. So all is not lost, for sure. Once you see that and recognize that, you can start looking at your thought patterns and reframing your thoughts. A little bit at a time. This doesn't happen overnight, but there are many ways that you can work to reframe your thoughts, and it's something that I usually really start out all my clients with because what you think about expands.
You first take a look at what those negative thoughts are, and you find ways to replace them with things that are more empowering. I would also say positive. And by positive, I don't mean toxic positivity where you have to think happy things all day long. That is not reality. That is not life. I don't believe that's the human experience. I think the human experience is really about feeling the highs and the lows and everything in between. It’s understanding and then working with it in a way that serves you best. So when you can start to reframe those thoughts, you're already starting to shift your life and move towards alignment.
The Body in the Mind Body Soul Connection
The next part of exploring the mind body soul connection is paying attention to the body. From that place of the mind and being aware of that piece of how your mind is operating, you can then start to look at reconnecting to your body. For me, reconnecting to the body means getting out of the head.
If you're going to have negative thoughts, let's try to replace those with empowering ones. From there, even with those empowering thoughts, how can you turn off your mind and connect back to your body?
Our bodies are speaking to us all the time. Your body tells you things all the time. It's tired. It needs a stretch. It's hungry. It's excited. All of these different things. And it usually tells us before our mind can tell us. We just then let the mind come in and override it.
If you think about decisions that you make and how you approach the decisions, you could be someone that gets that gut feeling first. And you know the decision beforehand, but you ignore that your body is telling you that. Then, you say, well, I think this, I think that, and you let your mind work it out, and then you make the decision. It usually doesn't end well when you do that because your body knows first. There's this whole concept and a big piece of listening to your body and paying attention to what it's telling you. And there's a lot that can be tied to it for, honestly, even for illnesses and I believe in modern medicine.
Let me just say also, if you know me and you've been around for a while, I have an engineering background. I'm as analytical as they come in a lot of ways. And there is a piece of working in this world that is really about paying attention to your body, paying attention to what it's telling you.
I really believe things like if you're someone that's experienced burnout, if you were listening and paying attention to your body, you would not have gotten to the phase of burnout. Because your body would have been telling you things all along, or it was telling you things all along, but you kept ignoring and ignoring and ignoring until it crashed because it had no other choice, because it was too much on your system. Getting out of your mind and going into your body is really about listening to it. It's turning off all the noise from your head, turning off that analytical piece and part of you, at least for a little bit, and reconnecting to the body because it really knows.
There are different exercises and things that you can do. I've talked about some of them on the podcast before, but things like body tapping and meditation and breath work. There are all different ways to work on quieting your mind and getting back into your body, which I highly, highly recommend. Once you're in that place where you've turned off the noise of the mind, you're reconnected with your body, then you will start to feel that calling of your soul.
The Soul in the Mind Body Soul Connection
Once you’re connected more in your body you’ll be able to explore the soul piece of the mind body soul connection. You can call it the soul, the higher self, whatever name you want to give it. But that other part of you, that feels bigger than you, that feels more expansive than your human body. And you've likely had an experience in your life at least a time or two where you felt connected to that. It is that creative life force energy that works through you, that gives you some amazing exciting ideas before your mind comes in and says, no. How are you going to do that? You can't do that.
When you connect to your soul in this way, you're starting to work more in alignment. It's not about doing this process once. It's not about, okay. I'm out of my head. I'm in my body. I'm connected to my soul. That's it. It's a continual practice that you have to keep remembering to do in a way, because life gets in the way, and you'll get interrupted, and the car broke down, and something happened at school, and whatever. Insert any of the million things that can come up. And then you have to remember again. You remember, oh, hey, wait. There's more to all of this than what I see here. I'm going to practice being present. I'm going to practice connecting back into that part of myself because that part of myself, that higher part, that soul that knows is really deeply centered in love and fulfillment and joy and high expression. It's not going to be sending you down a rabbit hole of negativity.
The more that you can explore and embrace and strengthen your mind body soul connection, the more you will directionally be living in alignment with your purpose, what you came here to do, who you came here to be, all of these things that will feel really good to you. If you feel disconnected, if you feel unhappy and things aren't right in your life, the best thing you can do is start exploring your own mind body soul connection, because it will take you down a path of transformation. I promise. It really will. It's crazy. It's wild and crazy, but it's amazing too.
Conclusion on the Mind Body Soul Connection
I wanted to share all this about the mind body soul connection with you as a way of putting it out there. I always say, take what resonates, leave the rest. Allow your curiosity and your openness to guide you and think about and reflect on where are you in your journey, what part of this feels interesting or good that you want to explore in more detail in some way and take it from there.
The reflection prompt and homework that I want to give you for this week is to evaluate:
How do you feel about your own mind body connection?
Where are you within that process?
Are you in your mind?
Are you already connected and in alignment with your soul all the time?
Or are you somewhere in between?
It's a journey and a process. If you first get curious and identify where you are in the process, then you can take steps to work towards shifting and aligning more and transforming some of those things that aren't serving you to things that will serve you and that support your life and the changes that you want to make and the dreams and the things that you want to achieve while you're here in this life, in this body, all the things.
I'm really curious to hear where are you within this process, and how did this land for you? So please let me know. You can connect with me on Instagram or LinkedIn.
