#18: How to Change Your Reality

For today's episode, I wanted to talk about how to change your reality. If you are someone that is not where you want to be or you've been trying things and they don't seem to be working, then we're really going to get into how to shift that and how to change that, so that you can actually see the results that you want and get the results that you want in your life. If you've been searching for real strategies on how to change your reality but feel stuck despite all your efforts, this episode will guide you through practical ways to shift your mindset and actions. Read below to learn how to change your reality by starting with small, manageable steps, embodying your new identity, and making lasting transformation from the inside out.

Mindful Knowledge: How to Change Your Reality by Recognizing When You Have Enough Information

Changing your reality starts with looking at your mind and the knowledge part of the process. Whenever you want to make a change in your life, you likely seek out information about that thing. You want to learn how to do something. If you want to start a business, for example, you might start researching types of businesses or the steps you have to take. If you want to look to buy a new house, you might look at what are the requirements in the state that I live or the area that I live and the process for doing that. There are parts of yourself that you'll want to become more educated and get more information and get more knowledge, which is wonderful. The thing that I see that trips people up the most is that they continue to search for the knowledge well past the time that they need said knowledge. They have enough already. And they don't actually take the next step. There is an important part of knowledge.

We can very easily get tripped up in this world because we have access to information twenty four seven at our fingertips that overconsumption is a real thing. The first part of this process is taking a look at what's the information that you're consuming, and do you have enough to get you started already. It’s really important to pay attention to that.

Everything in our world is now running on overconsumption. You can watch Netflix, and you can watch 10 episodes at a time and then as soon as you're done with the series, it will suggest another show or another movie for you. There are these habits that we've fallen into that continue us on this journey of consumption, on this journey of knowledge and finding out more and needing more information before we ever get started. That's a piece to pay attention to.

A thing that I like to talk to clients about, especially if they struggle with this part of it, is asking yourself, when is enough? Do you have enough information to get you started on the next phase of what you're doing, of what you want to create, of what you want to realize and actualize in the world?

It's understanding where are you consuming, and then:

  • Do you do you have enough?

  • Do you really need to keep going?

  • Do you really need to take another course or research another thing or watch another training?

  • Or do you already have what you need to get started?

Aligned Action: How to Change Your Reality Through Small, Purposeful Steps

The second part is taking aligned action. If you really want to change your reality, you of course need to take action. Also, it likely needs to be action in a way that you have not taken before.

Whether you're starting something new or you've been in process and you are not happy or not where you want to be with the changes that you've been trying to make, the actions need to be different. You may need to think outside the box, or you may need to even just get started by taking an action, which to that I would say start out with small steps. Don't think about the big end goal. Break it down and pick what's right in front of you. What's this next thing that you want to do? Whether it's this week or two weeks from now or a month from now, don't go looking at your goal a year from now and saying, “I'm not there yet.”

Well, it's going to feel impossible because you're trying it's going to feel impossible because you're trying to climb a mountain. Make sure that the steps are bite size or small enough or manageable enough that you feel that you can actually accomplish them. You might still need to stretch yourself a little and challenge yourself to do something differently. So if you don't feel comfortable showing up in a certain way, you may have to get used to it. Now that one gets a little tricky because I am of the mind that it's really best to work towards what feels most in alignment for you.

In terms of business building, for example, I would never go tell someone, well, you have to go on YouTube and do YouTube videos if that's not aligned for that person. And there's stuff that you can see in your human design with that. There are things that just based on your own previous experiences, what feels correct for you or not. You can use your decision making style to find out more. There is a balance between the two.

Take action and perhaps be a little uncomfortable, but don't be so uncomfortable that you are activating your nervous system and going into fight or flight because you're too scared to do it, and then you go run and hide. You have to be mindful of that too. That's a caveat for you. So the second piece is about taking action, making sure that it's aligned action, potentially still pushing or stretching you in some way, but making sure that you do that. You're not going to change your reality if you aren't willing to take action. Even if it's a very small step, it has to be a step. Otherwise, it's not going to happen. If you sit around all day and just try to have things come, that's not how it works. This does lead us into the third piece.

Embodiment: How to Change Your Reality by Becoming the Version of Yourself Who Has What You Desire

The first part of changing your reality is being mindful of the knowledge, what you know. Do you have enough information. The second part of changing your reality is taking that information and using it to take action - small, aligned steps to get you to where you're going. The third part of changing your reality is very important. If you have already been trying to get to a goal and you haven't seen it come to fruition yet, this could be the place where you're stuck. This part is becoming the new version of you, embodying the information, taking the action, and being it.

It can seem a little strange or sound a little strange, but you have to actually feel it in your body. If you want to be someone that runs a storefront in your town, you have to visualize and imagine that you are that person. You have to become that person before it actually shows up in your life. It might sound a little counterintuitive, and it does feel a little tricky sometimes from my own experience. It feels tricky because it's almost like you might feel like oh, I have to pretend or I have to fake it. But it's not quite that. It's a little bit different because you want to practice and visualize and embrace really embodying and becoming who you want to be or that person that you want to be when that thing shows up for you. Because the feeling part is actually very, very important.

Last week, we talked about the mind body soul connection. This is kind of a different version of it in that you have to really be connected to yourself and be connected to those feelings in order for it to show up in your life. There's a story about Jim Carrey when he was first starting out, and he wasn't a well-known high paid actor yet. He talked about that he wrote himself a check. wrote himself a check for acting services rendered, and he carried it around with him in his wallet for years. It was this check and this version for him, of his visualization method and him feeling and embodying and becoming this person that is a high paid actor. I do great work, and I get paid for the work that I put out into the world.

There are many people with many examples of this that talk about it, that you have to really feel these things and embody these things and know that it's already here for you. If you have a thought, if you have a dream, if you have a wish about something, it's something that is here for you. You wouldn't have the thought if it wasn't possible for you. So knowing that, if you embrace that and you hold that close to your heart and you take your time to open and connect to your mind body soul connection. You take your time to meditate and visualize and feel what it feels like to be the person, to be the person that has that storefront, to be the person that's working in that role with that career, whatever the case may be. It's really important to feel that so that then you can bring this to life from that place.

A lot of times when people are thinking about creating their reality, they're looking at getting the information and they're looking at taking action on it. They forget about the being part.

You need to check-in with yourself at each of these phases and evaluate:

  • Do I have the information that I need?

  • Am I taking aligned action that's going to support me in getting to my goal?

  • And then am I embodying this way of being so that I can match the frequency and the energy of this thing that wants to come to me?

I can say it now and I can say it here. It's not always so easy. It might sound a little easy in some ways and I just want to say I understand if it also sounds hard. It just takes practice. You can do it, anyone can do it. It just takes practice to be in that frequency and in that energetic alignment of someone that is already acting and becoming this person.

Think of kids that really show such drive and dedication and devotion to something. And you think – yes that kid is going to be a singer or athlete one day because they see it, they know it, they visualize it, they picture it, they already are it in a lot of ways. It's just who they are. So they're showing up and they're taking their action from that place of knowing who they are.

reflection questions for how to change your reality

Conclusion on How to Change Your Reality

Whatever your dream is, whatever your goal is, whatever your desire is, you find out the information that you need for right now. You don't have to look one year from now, just for right now. You take your aligned action in that way, and you become the person that operates in this way, that does things differently to reach this goal. I had an episode a few episodes back, a transformation tip on the premise was that you need to be willing to do things differently. And this is another piece of that. It all builds, it all connects together, that you need to be willing to become that person that has that thing or does that thing or is in that way, operates in that way. That is how you actually shift and change your reality.

I know I've said this on the podcast before… I have a very analytical background. That isn’t enough to change your reality. You also need the feelings to go with it. There is a beautiful mix of technical, analytical science stuff with the soft skills, with the embodiment, with the belief that really when you blend the two together, it's really the power of changing your life. Very honestly, it's the power of changing your life. So take a minute, think about that, and see where you are in this process and what is it that you really want to shift and change in your life.

Your reflection or homework prompt for this week is to take a look in these three areas on how to change your reality.

  • What is your relationship with consuming information?

  • Are you taking aligned action?

  • Are you practicing embodiment?

Are you feeling in your body how it feels to be that person who has that thing or does that thing? That takes a lot of visualizing and really take a minute, close your eyes, and feel into it in a different way. Feel as if you already have the thing. So where are you in that process and on that journey for yourself?

As you open up to it and get curious about it, you will see that you can begin to change things. You'll be able to shift your reality every time you redirect yourself to follow this new path and to embody this work in a different way from what maybe you have been trying in the past. Alright?
