#30: Understanding and Working with Pressure of the Root Center Human Design [Discover Who You Are Series]
Today’s episode is all about the root center human design. You’ll learn themes of the human design root center along with the differences between having this center defined and undefined. We’ll conclude with reflection questions for the root center human design so you can explore your relationship with this center.
Before we jump into today's episode, I wanted to share a very special announcement that the Mind Body Connection Unlocked book is officially available for pre order. This book has experiences, tools, tips, resources, all of the things to support you in strengthening and deepening your own mind body connection. I am really of the mind that we are very disconnected from our bodies and the more that we can get back in touch with that, the more that we can get out of our minds and into our bodies, the more deeply we can feel and experience life in a way that's in alignment for us.
I also offering bonuses for anyone that pre orders the book. You can learn more and get your copy here. As always, thank you so much for being here and for your support. I deeply appreciate it.
Let’s talk about today’s episode and the root center human design. We've been covering the Centers in Human Design as part of the Discover Who You Are Series and today we’re covering the root center human design. If this is the first episode that you're listening to, you can go on and scroll back and listen to the other eight and get the themes and reflections and prompts from those centers. Today’s center is all about the root.
A few things before we start, especially if you're new to the series, you can go ahead and pull your human design chart. You can get a free chart and follow along with your energy and your unique blueprint.
Human design is a tool. It is not a be all, end all. It does not say you have to do one thing, you should do that or you shouldn't do another. It is a tool and a compass and a roadmap to support you with where you are. I've worked with a lot of different systems over the years, working both in corporate and as a business owner, working with different tools that look at thinking, preferences and personalities and all of these things. And I have found that human design is the most accurate on a variety of levels. And it's really cool. And so I use this as a tool, but I also like to remind people that no tool is going to say exactly what you need to do.
Take what resonates and leave the rest. Don't use it as a crutch in that way. I see that happen a lot for people. Again, with any type of tool, you can use it to, to be more open and support you, or you can use it a little bit to your detriment in a way. So just keep that in mind as you go.
I'm not doing a full teaching on the chart in these episodes. This is not meant to overwhelm you with tons of information. I'm simply sharing themes and discussing points that you can look out for and then opening it up to reflection questions and prompts that can support you on your journey for wherever you are in this moment.
Themes of the Root Center Human Design
The root center is a pressure center along with the head center, which is the topmost triangle. This bottom square is also a pressure center. And this pressure is felt in the body. The themes around it are really around life and fuel and adrenaline drive. Stress can come from this as well. And it's really about this action in a way. The doing of the action. What I want to share here, related to the fact that it's a pressure center, is that this pressure will be felt in the body and it's something that needs to be regularly released.
You can find the root center human design on your chart. It is the square all the way at the bottom. In the long line of shaped down the middle of the chart, it's the one all the way at the bottom, and it's a square
Defined Root Center Human Design
If you have the center defined, which defined means that it has a colored in shape on your chart, it means you have consistent access to this energy. If you have that, then you will feel a pressure in your body. That kind of the way it works is that it's more on a pulse, like an on off switch. There will be times where you feel more of this pressure in your body and then times where you don't feel it as much. But over time, if you don't release that, that physical pressure from your body, then it'll really start to amp up and you'll be more out of alignment.
Usually what I tell clients that have this defined is that you need to pay attention to doing movement of some type, like some type of high intensity or something that really leaves you tired after to release that pressure because then it's going to fill up again. It kind of keeps coming back. Like you release it and then it'll come back and then you release it and then it'll come back. A way to stay in alignment with the center when you have consistent access to this energy is taking care of that, taking care of that pressure so that it's not overloading you okay on the flip flop.
Undefined Root Center Human Design
Alternatively, for someone that has this center undefined, it's the white shape in the chart and it's inconsistent access to this energy, it means that you amplify this from other people. If you're around other people that are defined, you will amplify their pressure. That pressure is not yours. I've talked about this in other episodes that when you have the white shape, the inconsistent access to the energy, the undefined center, it means that you're amplifying other people. Those feelings do not belong to you. That energy does not belong to you. It's really important to pay attention to. If you have this undefined and you're feeling boatloads of pressure, you have to look around and say, wait, whose pressure is this? It's not mine. And that's a very different way to manage the energy versus someone that has it defined and feels the pressure within their body on a regular basis. Paying attention to that will make a big difference between the two of you between defined and undefined.
The other piece that I want to share about stress and about pressure is that something that my human design teacher, Jamie Palmer told me about. And when I heard it, I was just like, whoa.
Pressure is meant to be entered into with joy or calm. It's not meant to be entered into with stress.
If you're feeling stress and then you're taking on more pressure, that's not in alignment. So again, pressure is meant to be entered into with joy or calm. Take it in, try it on. When I heard that, I said, oh, wow. Yes. Because actually if you're trying to make decisions or trying to figure something out while you're feeling the pressure of it, when you're inviting more stress into it, you're not in alignment to make the decision correctly.
There are different layers to this depending on what other energy you have in your chart. But taking a look at your overall relationship with stress and pressure is very important. Just like for the head center, which is also a pressure center, which we've talked about in terms of like the mental gymnastics and doubt and overthinking and all those things, this physical pressure is another piece of it.
If you're feeling physical pressure in your body, but like a stress, to do it, you really need to check in with that, check in with your relationship with it before you decide to take action on that thing. Because when you have this defined, you can, you can have the energy to kind of do the thing and take the action in some way and get started with it. But that also doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do. You have to listen to those other parts of your chart and know the other parts, know your body and listen to your body to know what's correct and in alignment for you.
Then the same goes, if you have it undefined, you have to pay attention and say, hey, wait, am I doing this right now? Because I feel so much stress and pressure to do it. Actually whose stress and pressure is that? It's not mine. And then you take a step back and then you reevaluate, you go back to your alignment. You use your own decision making style and your energy style and everything to figure out what's in alignment for you or not. So really important here, this is. And we as people, we have a lot of stress and pressure on a daily basis. So it's another big center in terms of, hey, what's happening here and what's my relationship with it.
Reflection Questions for the Root Center Human Design
In terms of reflection, questions and prompts, I want to invite you to take a look at…
What is your relationship with stress and pressure?
How do you feel it in your body or not?
Are you taking that on from other people or not?
If you feel that you're not in a great relationship with your own stress and pressure, if you don't have a like alignment to know how to take care of that, then chances are yeah, you're either not releasing it regularly if you have it defined or you're amplifying and then taking it on from other people if you have it undefined.
The invitation here is to take a look at what is your relationship with pressure.
What is your relationship with that taking action and getting things done?
Conclusion for the Root Center Human Design
Again, it can look different to different people. So really take some time to reflect for yourself and see how it shows up for you.
Then you can layer that in with other things like what is your decision making style, how do you best make decisions, which I covered in episode five. Then you can layer in these other pieces to see what works best for you.
That’s also part of strengthening and understanding your mind body connection to bring you back into what's in right relationship for you, what feels in alignment for you. As you're more in tune with your body, you'll be able to see these things more easily and work with it in a different way. Pressure can be very sneaky and you can feel like you can really take on from anyone, from all of the different things around us. There’s pressure everywhere. There's pressure to buy things, to watch things, to do things. If you don't have your own internal compass in check with yourself, then you're going to be run ragged by everyone else.
This is a pretty big deal and an invitation again, take what resonates, leave the rest but an invitation to look at what is your relationship with this.
If you want to go deeper with this information and have a human design reading or anything else, please feel free to reach out. I love working with people in this space because, well, it's so amazing to help someone and then see how much it changes their life. Of course. And also I'm really committed to this work of supporting people with the mind body connection because I think it's very powerful and I really feel that the future of our world is very closely linked and tied to people being more in alignment with themselves. It's really critical and so I'm very appreciative and grateful that I get to do this work every day and that I can talk about these things and share them with you and all of the things.
I'm taking the next couple of weeks off from the podcast and coming back the first week of September, so enjoy the rest of your summer if you're not already in the swing of things. Back to the new school year yet. I don't know, everyone starts at different times, but enjoy these next couple of weeks. Thank you so much for being here and I will speak to you real soon.
