#22: Identity Center Human Design [Discover Who You Are Series]

Before we get started with the human design identity center in today’s episode, I have a special announcement:

The mind body connection book is coming your way! I’m so excited to introduce the Mind Body Connection Unlocked: Simple Mind Body Techniques to Rewire Your Mind, Deepen Your Self Connection and Gently Transform the Way You Live.

This book about the mind body connection is a way to support you and share tools and resources for you to unlock your own mind body connection. I feel incredibly strong about this topic. It's something that's really changed my life in many, many ways and it's from my own process of unlocking my mind body connection, my own process of personal transformation and getting out of my head, paying attention to what my body was telling me and connecting to that deeper part of my being and of my soul. All of that is what this book is about, but in a way that will support you in your process. It's a chance for you to explore with different tools and resources to support you on your journey of being more of you, being more of you and less of what other people think or expect or what you feel you should be or who you should be or what you should be doing. This is all about you being more of you, discovering more of yourself and following that path and trusting it within you.

About the Identity Center in Human Design

Today is going to be the start of a series that I'm doing that's all around your relationship with yourself, but through different lenses. If you don't already know, I use a bunch of different tools and modalities in my work, working with individuals, also working with companies. And one of those tools is human design. Human design is a map or a blueprint that shows you how your energy works and how you are meant to move about the world. It's a fascinating tool and can be very transformative depending on where you are in your process and in your life. And what I wanted to do with this series was incorporate some of that into these different lenses that I look through. It's not going to be a lesson on human design at all. But I will reference some things here and there. So you can always pull your chart. You can get a free chart. I'm also going to pretty soon have charts available on my site for purchase that are more in depth than the basic chart. So that is another way you can pull the information, but it'll have a lot more in it. And you can have that as a starting point before even going for a reading or anything like that, which I do readings too, of course. But all of this to say that there are different resources and ways that you can get your hands on your chart to support you in this process. But if you don't want to do that, that's also okay. This information is meant to also be standalone. It's going to be a series through different lenses, through what are called the centers of Human design. So if you are already familiar, you may know that these are the different chakras in the body and part of the map when you get your chart. But what I'm going to do is have an open invitation for you to explore your relationship with each of the themes of each of the centers.

You don't need to do anything. It's an invitation for you to take in this information, reflect on it, spend some time with it, spend time with these questions and see what comes up for you. All right, so we're going to do a whole series. I'm going to start with the identity center.

Before we start on the theme for today, I will say that each of the centers in human design work in a couple ways. You can either have consistent access to the energy of that center or inconsistent access to the energy of that center. And without getting too far into it, consistent access means that the shape is colored in on your chart, and inconsistent access is when it's a white shape on your chart. So if you did pull your chart and you're curious, you can take a look at that consistent access. The colored in shapes are what's called defined. The white ones will be undefined or open. We're not going to go down the rabbit hole with all of that.

You can have consistent access or inconsistent access, but it doesn't change the point that you may be in alignment with that center or you may not be in alignment with that center, regardless of if you have a lot of energy there or not. I just want to say that in advance that goes with any of these and that's the reason why I wanted to put these in a series, because I wanted you to start to explore and reflect on what's your relationship with these different areas and themes that can be showing up in your life and can be showing up in your energetics. And as always, it's an invitation. Get curious, see where it takes you. And if it doesn't resonate, you know, leave that behind. Leave whatever doesn't resonate. Don't feel like you have to do all these things or reflect on all these things. Take it for what feels right for you.

Relationship with the Self and Identity Center Human Design

Today's center that I want to explore for the first one is the Identity Center. The Identity center is all about purpose, direction, self love, self trust. And this is the place where I get a lot of people coming into my world for my work. There's a lot in this center around feeling comfortable with your inner knowing, feeling the direction of your inner compass, and taking that information and using that feeling and that momentum in your life somehow. A lot of times people will come, clients will come and say, well, I'm not sure about the purpose of my life or the direction that I'm going, or I'm ready for a change in some way. I happen to work with a lot of people navigating different types of changes, whether it's career or business or life in some capacity.

Taking a look at your relationship with Self:

  • How do you feel about your direction?

  • How do you feel about your purpose?

  • Is it working for you in this moment, or is it something that you want to change or shift in some way?

A lot of times I feel like we have a lot of pressure to find our purpose and go in a certain direction. And I don't necessarily feel that that always fits for everyone. Some people may find that they have a very strong urge to go in a certain direction or have a strong knowing in some way and other people don't. And again, that can come into human design with if you have consistent access to the energy there or not.

For this part that I feel is so important is, and it circles back to the mind-body connection, is really taking a look at are you connected within yourself to be able to follow what lights you up and what brings you the most excitement. Even if things also feel challenging or even if you don't know where you want to be 10 years from now, who really knows where they're going to be 10 years from now? It's not a thing. You can have goals, you can have an idea, but that's not necessarily where you're going to end up, right?

It's about what is your relationship with purpose and direction.

Do you feel that you are on a path that feels right for you, or do you feel that you're not quite on that path?

And I bet you if you feel that way, it's because you're getting an inner knowing that you feel that way, that something feels off for you. This is an invitation for you to explore that more and to see where it takes you.

Self Love and Self Trust with the Identity Center Human Design

Now, the same thing can be said about self love and self trust. These all go together in the same center, but I'm breaking them apart because they're two very big topics in a way. So direction and purpose is one, self love and self trust is another.

For self love and self trust, I will say, what is your relationship with the self, with yourself?

That is the single most important relationship you will have in your life. I promise you. Your relationship with yourself is the single most important relationship you will have in your life and it impacts all of your other relationships.

So the invitation becomes:

  • What is your relationship with yourself?

  • How do you feel about yourself on a daily basis?

  • Do you love yourself?

  • Do you trust yourself?

  • Do you honor your direction and your purpose and your knowing?

  • And do you honor and respect where you feel those points of joy and excitement and knowing in your life that feel really good for you?

Reflection Questions and Conclusion on the Identity Center Human Design

That is what this is all about. These are very big questions. Take your time to sit with them and really reflect and see what your relationship is with each of these things.

  • What do you tell yourself?

  • What does your mind tell you on a daily basis?

  • Are you having thoughts that are supportive to your direction, supportive to loving and trusting yourself?

  • Or are you having thoughts that are filled with shame and blame or being a victim in some way?

Be really honest about it. Get really clear. Because from there you can shift a lot of other things in your life and you can create a completely different relationship with yourself. And it really is part of that first step of unlocking your mind body connection too. So I hope this is helpful for you. There are a lot of different questions in here. So again, please take what resonates and leave the rest. You might find right now you're working more on your purpose direction, or you might find that you're really feeling into self love and self trust in some way.

The invitation is to get curious and reflect on each of these different areas wherever you feel called, and spend some time to say, hey, what's my relationship here? The reason also that I'm doing this now in June, July, August, is because summer months are maybe a little slower in some ways. They can also be very busy, of course, children at home or camps, and very different routines. But if you find yourself having some time to relax or on your vacation and you want to get a little curious with yourself, some self inquiry, then this could be a place to start. And any one of these in this series will give you a bunch of questions that you can explore in some way, but no pressure on any of them either. You really go where you feel called. There is no checkbox that you have to check. There is no thing that you need to do and complete. This is a living invitation. And please honor yourself and where you're at throughout the whole thing. So the invitation, the homework for today is to reflect on these questions where you feel called.
