#34: Behind the Scenes of Mind Body Connection Unlocked Plus a Reflection Activity
Hello, lovely friends! I’m Mary Clavieres, host of Find Yourself, Change Your Life and author of Mind Body Connection Unlocked. Today, I’m incredibly excited to share a big milestone with you - my book, Mind Body Connection Unlocked, is officially live and available for purchase! This week marks the official launch, and I can’t begin to express how grateful I am to everyone who’s already supported me, whether by picking up a copy, sharing it, or spreading the word. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. This project is one I’m overjoyed about for so many reasons, and releasing it into the world feels truly momentous.
If you’re in the middle of your own big project—or dream of starting one—I want you to know I’m right here with you for all the feelings and all the phases that come with being in that creative space. Today, I’m taking you behind the scenes of my book-writing process for Mind Body Connection Unlocked and sharing an activity from the book to invite a little reflection into your day.
Behind the Scenes of Mind Body Connection Unlocked: My Real Book Writing Process
Honestly, I never sat down with the clear intention to write a book at the very beginning. It started much more organically through the simple act of journaling and writing for myself—not for anyone else to read. This became a therapeutic outlet years ago, even before I left my corporate job, and it’s probably been close to eight or nine years of developing this practice.
Somewhere along that journey, I remember vividly sitting on my bed reading a book when a voice in my head said, “You’re going to write a book one day.” I kind of laughed and filed it away—the idea felt so distant. And yet, here we are.
When the journey with Mind Body Connection Unlocked truly began, I didn’t have a master plan. I just felt a stirring within me—a strong felt sense that certain things wanted to come out, up, and through me. I began writing with the intention of capturing experiences and lessons that had helped me, and while there was no official outline at first, little by little, things started to take shape. I noticed recurring themes, tools, and practices from my life that wanted to be expressed and documented.
I share this because the process of creating anything can feel daunting, especially when your inner critic comes knocking. If you have a big dream like writing a book or expressing yourself creatively in some way, you might feel pressure about “doing it right”—staring at the blank page, worrying about structure, pacing, or productivity. Here’s what I’ve learned: it truly doesn’t have to look a specific way. It can be something that builds from what’s already simmering inside, expressed one piece at a time.
You don’t need to start with a rigid plan or declare you’re writing an entire book in a month. For me, it often looked like simply compiling everything into one place and seeing what emerged.
How I Actually Got the Writing Done for Mind Body Connection Unlocked
Now, I get asked a lot about how I made time to write, especially as a mom of two school-age kids, with family activities, work, and everything that comes with daily life. I did have a writing practice (shoutout to Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way and those trusty morning pages), but the reality is my book was written in “pockets of time.” Sometimes I managed daily consistency, but honestly, that wasn’t always possible, and that’s okay.
So, I focused on asking myself, “Where’s my next pocket of time when I feel able to write… even if it’s just a bit?” I let go of needing to sit for hours and crank out full chapters. This approach removed the pressure, and I could always go back to edit or rework things later.
This way of working wasn’t just about making things easier logistically—it was about honoring myself, my energy, and what was possible in each moment. I encourage you to find what works for you, too. Maybe that’s daily rituals; maybe it’s flexible little bursts.
I started writing in the spring of 2024. There were months of steady writing, then a complete halt in the summer while life took over—and that was perfectly fine. When the fall rolled around, I felt ready (or maybe the content was ready) to come out again. This project was my first big experiment in balancing creative “flow” (feminine, intuitive energy) with practical structure (masculine, get-it-done). Finding the right mix for myself was fascinating and allowed me to complete something I’m incredibly proud of.
If you dream of writing a book (or creating anything!), trust that your process is valid, no matter what anyone else says. Templates are fine, but the best “template” is your own way—your unique blueprint of what actually works for you. For those interested in Human Design, mine is a 3/5, which is all about trial and error and gleaning wisdom through the process. I want to see your creative expression in the world—done the way that feels true to you.
Sharing a Simple Reflective Activity for Your Own Mind Body Connection Unlocked Experience
Now, since my book is all about the mind-body connection and returning to self, I’d love to invite you into a reflection—a taste of what you’ll find inside the book.
Ultimately, every kind of growth or change comes back to ourselves. The work always begins with reconnecting to the self, and that’s where so many of us are disconnected. The first section of the book is about understanding the mind-body connection, and then quickly moves into self-exploration through activities, tools, and reflection questions.
So here’s an invitation to reflect. No pressure, no expectations. Use these prompts however you like—journal them, think about them on a walk, discuss them in a safe space, or just let them percolate.
Reflection Questions:
Do you carve out time for yourself on a regular basis?
How often do you say positive things to yourself?
What are 10 things you love about yourself?
Do you love yourself?
How much do you love yourself?
How often do you remind yourself of this love?
Take as much time as you need with these. If you feel called to share your thoughts or want to connect with others reflecting on similar questions, join our Facebook community (linked in the show notes).
